Ivan Ruiz is ready to share his rich culture and culinary expertise with Columbus.

His new Mexican Grill, Masa, has officially opened in the Historic Trolley District’s East Market at 212 Kelton Ave., serving authentic tacos, burritos, birria, quesadillas, all piled in homemade masa (corn) tortillas, and topped with homemade salsas, like their signature “Salsa Illegal.”

Growing up in the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains of Mexico and later immigrating to the United States, Ruiz embarked on a mission to share his culture and food with his newfound community. Now, thanks to Ruiz and his passion, Columbus has the opportunity for a genuine taste of the Mexican mountains.

The eatery’s name, Masa Mexican Grille, is an ode to the corn dough that Ruiz showcases at his vending booth. Right next to the register, you’ll find Ruiz kneading and flattening the masa to form his authentic tortillas. “Sin maíz no hay país, meaning there is no country without corn,” emphasizes their website.
