Award-winning Ohio brewery opening first Columbus location; partners with popular BBQ spot

Beer & BBQ: the most iconic duo around, especially in Columbus.

And the East Market knows what the people want.

It was announced in September that popular BBQ eatery, Barrel & Boar, would be joining the East Market at 212 Kelton Ave., and now, Homestead Beer Company, one of Ohio’s award-winning craft breweries, is joining the stall right next to Barrel & Boar, complete with a small-batch brewery and bar there. The duo will be taking over the two stalls that formerly housed the grocery portion of Butcher & Grocer.

Stan Riley is the founder of Barrel & Boar, and along with his BBQ business, he partnered with Homestead. A match made in BBQ and beer heaven, really.

Adam Rhodes, the founder of Homestead, said in a release, “Our commitment to brewing exceptional beer, while ensuring it remains affordable, aligns seamlessly with the vision of the East Market. The retail space will allow beer aficionados in Columbus another location to purchase Homestead’s signature brews and specialty products. With the opening of our new location at East Market, we aim to deepen our connection with the Columbus community and continue our mission to make high-quality craft beer accessible to all.”

Homestead is originally based in Heath and has since expanded their taprooms to Marysville, Newark, and Canal Winchester. Their Canal location is in the now-closed Barrel & Boar location. In 2016, Homestead was awarded with The Outstanding Manufacturer by SCORE.

They offer a variety of hand-crafted beers, ranging from light amber ales to dark porters.

“It’s our mission to bring those connections back into your life. Your oldest friends, your co-workers, your new neighbors, and your family, rediscover the joy of community. One beer at a time…we want to restore your bonds to place and time,” Homestead’s website says.
