‘Best Ramen in Cincinnati’ is opening first Columbus location

This December, Columbus can warm up with spicy broths, Japanese ramen, dumplings, and sake.

Zundo Ramen & Donburi, a Cincinnati ramen and rice bowl (Donburi) shop with accolades such as “Best Ramen in Cincinnati” by Cincinnati Magazine, “Best Vegetarian Ramen,” and “Best Noodles” by CityBeat, is opening a Columbus location this winter at 2500 N. High St. in Old North. Construction will start in two weeks.

Owner Han Lin said that there are a lot of Japanese customers from Columbus that stop by the Cincinnati location for authentic Japanese ramen, and they told him that Columbus needs a spot like this. “They told me that there’s a market in Columbus for fresh ramen made entirely from scratch, and I listened,” explained Lin.

He lived and studied culinary arts in Japan from the ages of 17-21, where he fell in love with traditional Japanese cuisine, especially ramen. “I love the texture, the flavor, the comfort, and the way you feel satisfied and just better after eating a bowl of ramen,” Lin said.

Zundo Ramen still pays homage to Lin’s time in Japan – the ramen flour is imported from Japan, each noodle is made from scratch, and every single bowl is crafted with high quality ingredients. The vegetarian broth is made from miso, lotus root, and green onion, while the Tonkotsu pork broth (Lin’s recommendation) is freshly made from rare, black pigs at a small Wisconsin farm.

Besides just ramen, Zundo will serve appetizers like gyoza, pork belly buns, and deep fried oysters, along with other entrees like Teriyaki Don (rice topped with chicken thigh meat in a house-made teriyaki sauce) and a variety of Curry Udons.

They will also offer more than 35 different traditional sake options, as well as Japanese whiskeys and a variety of Asian beers.

It’s easy to see why Zundo has become Cincinnati’s go-to ramen spot: fresh, traditional ingredients and a ton of options for both meat-eaters and vegans. We’re excited to welcome this restaurant to Columbus!
