Chef Hiro, the Columbus restaurant concept that began out of owner Jean Claude Ba’s kitchen just a handful of years ago, plans to open its second brick and mortar home since the middle of 2022.

According to Ba, Chef Hiro Express, the name for Ba’s new Campus-area ghost kitchen, will officially open its doors on New Year’s Day.

The eatery will serve many of the same items that helped popularize Chef Hiro as a food truck and later a South End brick and mortar, but it will also offer a handful of exclusive items, anchored by new Chef Hiro pizzas.

“We have jerk salmon pizza, jerk chicken pizza shrimp pizzas, vegan pizzas and a lot of specialty pizzas like oxtail pizzas,” Ba told 614now in an interview this summer sa. “We’ve done a few test runs of our pizzas and they’ve all sold out within the first 3 to 4 hours, so I’m really excited to see the response from the student population.”

The concept, which will offer pickup and delivery only, will serve as a “test run” for potential brick and mortar Ba is eyeing in the area of north Campus and Clintonville.

Chef Hiro also operates a brick and mortar restaurant with dine-in space that’s located at 1297 Parsons Ave.
