Columbus area gelateria ranked ‘Ohio’s Best Ice Cream Shop’ in 2023
And no, it’s not the Columbus based ice cream shop you’re probably thinking it would be.
When you think of iconic Columbus scoop shops, Jeni’s Ice Cream probably comes to mind. However, there’s a gelato shop tucked into a business center in downtown Westerville that has garnered national recognition as “Ohio’s Best Ice Cream Shop.”
Yesterday, 24/7 Wall St. released their exclusive ice cream list for 2023, measuring their rankings based on a consideration of ratings and reviews from general interest sites, including Food & Wine, Taste of Home, Reader’s Digest, as well as other numerous, regional sites. They opted to omit any fro-yo shops and nationwide chains/presences off the list, too, so it solely focuses on mom-and-pop ice cream shops.
None other than Coppa Gelato, located at 925 N. State St. Westerville, OH, was officially named “Ohio’s Best Ice Cream Shop.” Their gelato is made in small batches right in the heart of Westerville, slowly churned with less air, creating a creamier and more dense frozen treat than traditional ice cream, according to their website. They serve gelato flavors such as Lemon Lime Basil, which this study suggested as a “must-try” if it’s in season (we checked their Facebook, and this flavor is featured this week!).

Other exciting, unique flavors featured recently include Dreamsicle, Chocolate Covered Raspberry, Andes Mint Chip, Bananas Foster, Bacio, Sticky Caramel Brownie, and Panna Cotta Amarena Cherry. Birthday Cake, Pistachio, and Cookies & Milk are offered every day as well. Along with incredible, creamy gelato, they serve macarons, cake, espresso drinks, and other desserts.
Coppa Gelato was also ranked #1 Ice Cream Shop in Ohio back in 2019 by USA Today. They first opened in 2014, and they’ve won various awards for their outstanding gelato ever since.
