Columbus distillery purchased by national beverage group

Just months after Middle West Spirits announced a massive expansion, another Columbus distillery has some big news to share.

Earlier today, Watershed Distillery announced that it has been purchased by Marussia Beverages USA, the domestic arm of the Marussia Beverages Group, an international spirits producer and distributor. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“In Marussia Beverages we see the same entrepreneurial spirit that has driven our growth here at Watershed Distillery,” said Lehman, founder and CEO of Watershed Distillery in a press release. “Working with John Horn and the executive team at Marussia has been energizing and exciting. As we plan to grow our footprint here in Central Ohio and throughout the country, we see potential opportunities for our current team, future employees, and the Columbus region.”

Lehman, who co-founded Watershed in 2010 and has helped it become the producer of Ohio’s top-selling gin and bourbon portfolios, will continue to oversee the distillery’s operations. The distillery’s iconic Columbus eatery, Watershed Kitchen + Bar will continue to serve as “a place for the community to gather,” according to the release.

“We started as two guys with a big idea, one small pot still and 2,000 square feet,” Lehman said. “The community rallied behind the brand and energized us day after day and supported us year after year. This strategic acquisition allows us to stay a part of the community that built us, continuing to grow here and share Ohio-made spirits with people near and far.”
