Local pizzeria and bar owners bring food truck depot, outdoor music venue to Columbus area

Delaware’s former Food Truck Depot has an exciting new chapter ahead.

John Cordas and Thom Ibinson, the owners of Shorty’s Pizza (the Delware-based eatery that opened a location inside the former home of Neighbor’s Deli last year), alongside Amy Adams and Jason Adams, the owners of O’Nelly’s Pub, have replaced Homestead Brewing and Delaware Station as the new operators of the former Food Truck Depot, and changed its named to Sandbar Station.

They plan to bring the site back to its original use as a food truck hub, with a few interesting twists.

Located at 59 Potter St. in Delaware, Sandbar Station was opened in 2019 as the Delaware Food Truck Depot by Paul Rockwell, who used it as a hotspot for local food trucks and beach volleyball. Last year, Homestead Brewing became the new tenant of the space, which was operated as a Homestead taproom with Delaware Station, a Columbus-style pizza concept, operating its kitchen.

Last week, Cordas, Ibinson and the Adams took over. Its name has changed, but Rockwell will remain the landlord.

According to Cordas, the space–which is currently open for beach volleyball, but not yet for food–will revert to its original use as a community hotspot for food trucks.

“We plan to have at least 10 food trucks here every weekend,” Cordas said. He noted that the space will serve a food menu of its own during the week, offering a variety of contemporary handheld options as well.

Sandbar Station, which boasts multiple beach volleyball courts, has continued to operate as a beach volleyball space through tenant changes.

Food isn’t the only thing coming to Sandbar Station, either. Cordas said an outdoor stage is currently being built on the property to host a variety of live music performances. 

“There are a few patios in the area, but will be the first full outdoor stage,” he said.

Volleyball leagues will continue to operate at Sandbar Station, which plans to host a ribbon-cutting, which will see the food truck depot and live music portion of the concept open, in late May.
