New “neighborhood dive bar” opening in Victorian Village this week

Jack McLaughlin

In the former home of the long-standing Shrunken Head, a unique new bar concept is coming to Victorian Village.

The Vic Village Tavern, which is billed as a “classic neighborhood dive bar,” will officially open its doors for business on March 23 at 4 p.m. according to co-owner Quin Allen. Matthew Herron and Lonnie Kubankin, two of Allen’s business partners from The Liberty Bar, will also co-own the new space.

The new bar is located at 251 W. 5th Ave.

Allen, who also co-owns Zeno’s, another Victorian Village bar and grill, said in a social media statement last month that the Vic Village Tavern will offer a full drink menu, but will lean into a fun dive-bar feel, emphasizing brands like Blatz, Old Style and Stroh’s.

“We want to bring balance back to the Columbus bar scene and add another neighborhood dive to the mix,” Allen’s statement reads.
