Ohio’s best pizza place is in Columbus, according to international publication
October 2023 reviews are in at the Lovefood team, and turns out, the absolute best pizza in Ohio can be found right on the corner of High St. and Fifth Ave.
And surprisingly, this number #1 pizza spot doesn’t serve traditional, Columbus-style pizza. Actually, they’re known for quite the opposite – a Neapolitan pie, made from homemade dough, and baked right in a classic Napoli oven.
Yup – you guessed it – Ohio’s best pizza joint right now, based on genuine user reviews, awards and accolades, and first-hand experience from the Lovefood employees, is Paulie Gee’s Short North.
Personally, I’m ecstatic to see Paulie Gee’s getting the recognition it deserves. They were one of the first pizzerias in Columbus to offer a vegan cheese option (two, actually! I prefer the cashew ricotta), and from my time spent in Italy, devouring three pizzas a day, I think they do an amazing job replicating a true Neapolitan pizza – perfectly placed char marks and all.

Lovefood especially likes Paulie Gee’s spicy pizza. “Spice fans should try the Hellboy, with tomatoes, hot salami, mozzarella, parmesan, and honey,” they said.
They also serve a “Stuffed Pizza” option (called “Squares” on their menu), which is reminiscent of Sicilian/Detroit style pizza, with thick, doughy, saucy, cheesy squares. It’s phenomenal, too.
Paulie Gee’s is located at 1195 North High St., and they’re open Tue-Thurs, 5pm-10pm, Fri-Sat, 4pm-10pm, and Sundays, 4pm-9pm. You can get your pies to-go, or enjoy them right there at the restaurant.
Sounds like you have weekend plans if you didn’t already!
