The culinary brains behind some of the city’s best sandwiches is branching out into a new brick and mortar concept.

John McGinnis of McGinnis’ Grill, the popular sandwich-focused food truck, plans to launch Birdie’s Grill, a new brick and mortar concept that will be a part of The Fairway, a golf simulator lounge coming to Upper Arlington.

The Fairway and Birdie Grill will be housed in a portion of the former Upper Arlington Cafe, which is located at 1975 Henderson Rd. You can read more about The Fairway here.

According to McGinnis, the eatery will be inspired by the idea of a golf clubhouse, but its offerings won’t be confined to traditional clubhouse fare.

“We’ll be leaning pretty heavy on appetizers, like chicken wings with homemade sauces. We also plan to have a larger appetizer sampler platter, so people can try a little bit of everything,” McGinnis said. “Plus salads, entrees, fish and chips and more. Anything we can make from scratch, we will.”

He noted that several standout menu items from McGinnis’ Grill will be offered at Birdie’s Grill as well, including their best seller, the Braised Brisket Melt, in addition to the Caprese Grilled Cheese and a riff on their Cuban Sandwich.

The space will feature seven or eight four-top tables, in addition to a bar that will be operated by The Fairway.

Both The Fairway and Birdie Grill are anticipating an October opening, but an actual date has not been announced yet.
