Plans for chic new bar and music venue appear to have been scrapped

While many were anticipating Lovebirds Bar coming to the city’s SoHud neighborhood, it appears that after years of planning, the project will not be moving forward. At least not at its initial location.

Lovebirds, which has been in the works since early 2021, was slated to serve as a chic new bar and live music venue (with bocce ball), and had planned to move into 367 E. Hudson St., near the corner of Hudson St. and Summit St.

Honey Cup Coffee (which is a separate entity from Lovebirds) first planned to share the space with Lovebirds Bar in the fall of 2021. The coffee company provided an update late last week, however, claiming that Lovebirds Bar (which was initially slated to open in the summer of 2022) will no longer be completed as planned.

“The plan was to share the space with Lovebirds but after financial difficulties on Lovebirds end the project had to be scrapped. The plan was abandoned over a year ago and the hope was they would share some updates and they have not,” Honey Cup’s statement reads.

While (614)Now was not able to reach the owner of Lovebirds and confirm this by the time this story was posted,  a current owner of the property confirmed that a new project is already underway. Additionally, the bar’s website no longer operates, and its last Instagram update was made in in March of 2022.

Honey Cup, which began as a vintage camper in the SoHud neighborhood, also operates a coffee shop inside of The Rambling House.
