Popular local cheesesteak chain slated to open Hilliard location

It appears that Hilliard is trading pita sandwiches for cheesesteaks instead.

Hummus & Pita Co. recently closed their sole 1777 Hilliard Rome Rd. location after opening last year, and Charley’s Cheesesteaks, a popular chain known for gooey cheesesteak sandwiches, is moving right in. The empty building currently has a “Coming Soon” sign with Charley’s branding on the door of the storefront.

There are currently 10 other Charley’s Cheesesteaks chains in the Columbus area, but this will be the first in Hilliard. The original Charley’s started back in 1986 while CEO Charley Shin was an undergrad at The Ohio State University. “After experimenting with countless ingredients and perfecting his recipe, Shin turned is entrepreneurial dreams into a reality…he opened his first restaurant called Charley’s Steakery, a 450-square foot space near the OSU campus,” says their website.

Their current menu hasn’t strayed too far from their original 1986 one – it still features sandwiches made with steak or chicken, vegetables, and melted cheese – a classic Philadelphia favorite. They also now offer wings at some locations, as well as mozzarella sticks and fries.
