Puerto Rican Pizzeria and restaurant opening first-ever brick and mortar restaurant in Clintonville

Authentic New York pizza and empanadas are on the menu in Clintonville.

The former ghost kitchen, Nuyorican Pizzeria & Restaurant, is preparing to open its first-ever brick and mortar eatery. The restaurant, which is located at 2864 N. High St., is planning to hold its grand opening in early July, owner Oshen Figueroa told 614Now.

Figueroa, who grew up in New York and has extended family members in Puerto Rico, said Puetro Rican cuisine is “second nature” to him, with the eatery featuring classic dishes like Spanish Rice, Mofongo and Puerto Rican empanadas.

“Pizza’s my speciality, though; hand-tossed and from scratch,” Figueroa added with a laugh. “I worked at Pizzeria New York in Pickerington for years. I learned about the trade and craft and got to build relationships, and really create my own recipe.”

Figueroa, who also was part of the original staff of East Coast Pizzeria in Clintonville, has been working in the restaurant industry since the age of 17.

While Nuyorican Pizzeria & Restaurant officially opened as a ghost kitchen in April of 2021, Figueroa said the concept has existed on paper–and in his mind–for more than a decade.

The eatery, which will be carryout and delivery only, is awaiting its final permit inspection before opening.
