Texas-based company proposes development that would demolish The Little Bar and a campus-area church

A proposed development that would see a popular campus-area bar and a Baptist church torn down has cleared one of its preliminary hurdles.

During its Jan. 3 meeting, the University Area Commision’s Zoning Committee approved a proposal that would see an Austin, Texas-based developer tear down The Little Bar and University Baptist Church of Columbus to build a new mixed-use development.

The Little Bar, known for its massive Buckeyes watching parties in its parking lot, is a student-favorite spot and a future in the campus-area bar and restaurant scene.

The project, which was proposed by American Campus Communities, would be built at the northwest corner of North High Street and West Lane Avenue. The most recent plans for the development includes an eight-story building and a six-story building, connected by a walkway. Located at 2195 N. High St. and 50 W. Lane Ave., the buildings would offer a combined 141 bedrooms, offering multi-family apartments, student apartments and dedicated indoor parking space.

Plans for the development show that the University Baptist Church would take over the first floor of the six-story building located at 2195 N. High St.

The proposal will be considered by the University Area Commission as a whole at its Jan. 18 meeting. It will move to the Columbus City Council if approved.
