Fifteen indoor TV’s, five more on the patio, and a jumbotron in the parking lot makes Varsity Club, a local restaurant and bar established in 1959, the “Best Bar to Watch Football in Ohio,” according to 24/7 Tempo’s latest rundown of “Best Bar to Watch Football in Every State.”

To determine the best bars for sports lovers, Tempo sifted through thousands of ratings from Yelp, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health, and other regional sites. They claim that a great sports bar needs the following: lots of TV’s, oversized projection screens, subscriptions to the top sports channels, comfortable seating, casual, indulgent food like pizza and wings, and of course, beer.

Varsity Club exceeds all of these requirements. Along with beer and gin & sodas, guests can fill up on wings, pizzas, hot subs, and other pub fare while being surrounded by dozens of sports games projected throughout the bar. Although Varsity Club is near campus, it still shows the NFL Sunday Ticket schedule and not just Buckeye games (the tailgate parties for those OSU games are like none other though – imagine DJ’s at 9am and pitchers of Bacardi drinks). Yelp reviewers seem to especially appreciate the aspect that on most game days, guests must be at least 21 years old.

Varsity Club resides at 278 W. Lane Ave., about a half mile away from the stadium. I’m going to take a wild guess where most of Columbus will be on September 2nd?!
