The work of the artisan butcher, once considered a dying trade, is currently experiencing a serious renaissance, likely benefiting from a renewed interest in eating local, whole food. And while the Arch City isn’t necessarily known for its meat-production, according to “Food & Wine,” Columbus is home to one of the country’s best butcher shops.

A story published on Feb. 8, called “The Best Butcher Shops & Meat Markets in America,” featured a list of the country’s top 100 spots.

Mentioned as the list’s 12th entry (although “Food & Wine” did not clarify whether placement on the list is relative to rating) is The Butcher & Grocer’s original Grandview location.

“All pastured Ohio meats, all the time—or very nearly—is the rule at this whole animal shop in suburban Columbus. In just four years, they’ve gained a considerable following for quality. This is one of the more passionate crews you’ll find in a butcher shop for many a mile,” the story reads.

Ohio had several other entries on the list, all of which were from Cleveland.

Launched by Tony Tanner in 2016, The Butcher & Grocer has expanded its retail presence with additional locations, and even created a wholesale arm, TB&G Meats, located near the John Glenn International Airport. The concept is dedicated to sourcing quality Ohio-raised meats and more.
