There’s a cozy, exposed brick-walled, 16-year-old restaurant in the heart of downtown Powell that serves elevated American fare. They consider themselves a “Patriotic Pub,” complete with Statue of Liberty and Liberty Bell replicas and the most appropriate name – Liberty Tavern.

Now, in true American fashion, Liberty Tavern is expanding. A local developer has confirmed that the restaurant will be replacing the now-closed Mellow Mushroom building at 2170 Polaris Parkway.

They’re also planning on expanding to Grove City’s Beulah’s Park hopefully by next Spring.

Their current menu features classic burgers like the Bill of Rights burger, topped with lettuce, tomato, smoked cheddar, roasted garlic aioli, on a brioche bun. Their famous Pretzel Reuben features corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, dijon mustard, and thousand island dressing, all on a pretzel bun.

In 2022, Liberty Tavern was acquired by the well-known Columbus restaurant group, Orange Umbrella, who also operates restaurants such as Local Cantina, South Village Grille, The Rossi, Bendi Wok N’ Bar, and more. According to Jordan Helman, CEO of Orange Umbrella Restaurants, they’re planning on elevating the two new Liberty Tavern concepts, all while staying true to the elevated American roots.
