Two popular Columbus coffee companies have merged, and opened a chic new brick and mortar space

While Mission Coffee Co. and Blank Slate Coffee have painted a loose connection since the latter opened eight years ago, the two popular Columbus-area coffee concepts have now become one.

According to Matt Roberson, who founded Blank Slate coffee in 2013 before purchasing Mission Coffee late last year, the companies have merged, and will be known as Mission Coffee Co. moving forward.

After closing its Short North home at the start of the pandemic, Mission later relocated to a space in The Fort, which was located at 2050 S. High St. They have now moved to 2060 S. High St., which according to Roberson–although not far–will be a boost for the business going forward.

“When we landed at The Fort in 2021, the space we set the roastery up in was intended as a temporary solution,” Roberson said. “It was pretty far back in the building, and not super accessible to anyone. So the move to 2060 (which is still attached to The Fort) was really about getting back to our roots and being able to offer the Cafe environment that so many people loved from the Short North.”

Roberson said that Mission took on a handful of former Blank Slate employees, and the coffee truck will also make its mark in a number of other ways.

“We’re using the former mobile, Blank Slate Coffee, as the ‘kitchen’ for our new space. Guests will be able to get Mission drinks from the truck, and head into our space,” he said. “There’s a fully built out seating area, with some great reminiscent touches to [Mission’s original location on Price Road], as well as some unique new additions. And WiFi!”

Mission Coffee Co. held a soft opening this weekend at its new space, and its grand opening will take place on April 1 at 9 a.m.
