While it might not feel this way when you’re stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on I-71 in rush hour, Columbus is one of the country’s friendliest cities, according to a recent survey from the online language learning service Preply.

The service asked more than 1,200 individuals from across the country to name the friendliest cities in the United States across multiple situations, including holding doors open, holding an elevator, and offering directions to strangers.

According to Preply, Columbus is the country’s 3rd-friendliest city, with an average friendliness rating of 7.16 out of 10 possible points. Columbus came in behind only Austin (1) and Charlotte (2).

Among the sub-categories participants were polled on, Columbus ranked highest on the one titled Cities friendliest toward strangers, where it took the 5th overall spot.

While many in the Midwest may see the region overall as one of the country’s friendliest, participants in the Preply survey seem to think differently. The Arch City was the only Midwestern city mentioned in the top 15.
