A man who taunted the Newark Police Department on social media was captured this week.

According to a statement posted to the Facebook page of the Newark Division of Police, central Ohio man Tanner Rhinehart was arrested on multiple warrants after a multi-week search.

“Outstanding job by Newark Division of Police, specifically Officers Stevens, O’Neal, Conroy, Jackson & Beach and all who responded to assist in apprehending Tanner Rhinehart this afternoon on numerous warrants.  Mr. Rhinehart thought jumping in the river would evade capture; However, he was wrong & was taken into custody without further incident.”

Newark Police tagged Rhinehart’s Facebook account in the statement, which was posted after Rhinehart appears to have taunted police earlier this month.

In a post from May 15, Newark Police posted Rhinehart’s photo and noted he was wanted. Rhinehart responded to the post:

“Y’all almost had the other day you gotta be quicker than that.”

According to Licking County records, Rhinehart was arrested on May 24.
