Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with central Ohio’s largest Latino supermarket, La Plaza Tapatia

Today marks the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month (it runs from Sept. 15-Oct. 15), and there’s no better way to kick things off by visiting central Ohio’s largest Latino supermarket, La Plaza Tapatia.

In this case, however, the word “supermarket” doesn’t feel quite right, because La Plaza Tapatia offers much, much more. This includes an in-house restaurant, scratch made food and baked goods, a full bar, homemade ice cream and paletas, a cafe serving Crimson Cup coffee, and even a “Candy Land” brimming with Latin candy and treats.

La Plaza Tapatia is located at 255 Georgesville Rd., directly across from the Hollywood Casino Columbus.

The massive, all-in-one marketplace and restaurant was founded in 2004 by Gustavo Salazar as a way to offer different Mexican foods, drinks and treats to the central Ohio community.

While today kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, La Plaza Tapatia will also be celebrating Mexican Independence Day all day today, complete with festivities and special deals. While the holiday is formally recognized on Sept. 16, in Mexico celebrations typically begin on Sept. 15, often carrying into the next day.

La Plaza Tapatia is open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
