90s/2000s themed silent disco taking over downtown intersection this month, plus 3 other cool events
If you’ve ever been stuck at a party where the music just wasn’t your vibe, but you still wanted to dance, then there’s a perfect event for you happening this month.
UnderCurrent is hosting a Downtown Silent Disco on August 17, where dancers grooving to their own beat will be taking over the intersection of Gay & High Streets. Each person wears special headphones that allow them to choose their own channel, so you’re able to dance to exactly what you’d want to! Channels include a 90s/2000s hits, girl pop-chart toppers, hip-hop, R&B, and even Bollywood party beats. You’ll be able to dance in the middle of the street, with a drink in one hand (thanks to the DORA), and a free frozen treat in the other. Show up anytime between 6:00pm and 9:00pm!

What: FREE Kayak Day
When: Saturday, August 10 | 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Boat launch under the Main Street Bridge, near Bicentennial Park
Details: The views from the Scioto River are priceless, but you can experience them for free. All experience levels are welcome to enjoy a complimentary kayak, tandem kayak or SUP rental. What: FREE Midway on the Mile
When: Saturday, August 10 & Sunday, August 11 | 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Where: Rich Street Bridge
Details: Elevate your festival experience at Midway on the Mile! Join us on the Rich Street Bridge overlooking Downtown Columbus for a unique carnival-style event featuring iconic summer fun including a trackless train, obstacle course, wipeout attraction, putt-putt course and more. Prepare for fun for all ages and breathtaking views.
What: FREE Family Movie Night: A Goofy Movie
When: Saturday, August 17 | 8:15 p.m.
Where: Columbus Commons, 160 S High Street
Details: Round up the whole family and head to the Commons for a free movie surrounded by the stars and the city skyline. This event is free, open to the public, and lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. There will be food trucks on site until 9 pm! Snacks are welcome.
