Dublin, OH trying to lure tourists from Dublin, Ireland to visit by offering them free beer

Sav McKee

Would you take a St. Patrick’s Day vacation based on the promise of free pints of beer?

The nonprofit, Visit Dublin Ohio has placed billboards all around “the other Dublin,” Dublin, Ireland of course, that say, “FREE PINTS. Only in Dublin…Ohio. Seriously. Visit otherdublin.com,” in an attempt to lure Irish tourists to none other than Ohio for St. Paddy’s Day.

Dublin, Ohio has high hopes that their city entices the Irish, boasting on their website, “a walkable bustling little downtown to a field of giant cement corn (also not a joke), this city has it all. Our St. Patrick’s Day kicks off with a parade, followed by a pub crawl and plenty of other activities for all ages. What we lack in size, we make up for with charm…and shameless offers of free beer. Plus, you’ll be the madman (or madwoman) of your friend group who really flew to America for booze. And that’s priceless.”

Here’s how it works:

  • Irish tourists (21+) have to book their own ticket and place to stay anytime between March 8th and March 18th, 2024.
  • They’ll email Visit Dublin to let them know they’re coming
  • Upon arrival, they’ll check into the Dublin Visitor’s Center, showing their valid Ireland ID.
  • The Visitor’s Center will then set the person up with free drinks for up to three days
  • Limited to 25 total participants
