614 feast names his top 5 spot for St. Patrick’s Day dishes

Anthony O'Connell

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a taste of Ireland in Columbus! With St. Patrick’s Day upon us, I’m reminded of my Irish roots courtesy of my mom’s side of the family. Every year, we’d enjoy corned beef and cabbage, a dish that brings back a ton of holiday memories. Let’s not forget Irish soda bread, fresh and warm, straight from the oven—truly unbeatable. When these classic dishes come together, it’s a major feast, especially when complemented by a perfectly poured Guinness and a shot of whiskey. Let’s dive into my top 5 favorite dishes for St. Patrick’s Day.

The Dublin Village Tavern (27 S High St)

Since 2000, a Dublin, Ohio favorite. Their Irish Kettle Dinner is a hearty dish featuring slowly simmered corned beef & Irish rashers, a grilled Irish banger, cabbage, carrots, redskin potatoes, and au jus for a taste of tradition that feels like a hug.

Byrne’s Pub (1248 W 3rd Ave)

Where Irish music and great food meet. Indulge in the comfort of Byrne’s Shepherd’s Pie—a generous serving of savory Guinness Stew with creamy mashed potatoes and aged Irish cheddar.

O’Reilly’s Pub (2822 N High St)

A casual neighborhood bar with a flair for amazing Irish cuisine. I suggest the Irish stew with soda bread. Dip the bread in the stew and have yourself a time.

Dempsey’s Food & Spirits (346 S High St)

My go-to for a casual Irish pub experience. Savor every bite of Dempsey’s Cottage Pie: ground beef, peas, carrots, corn, and beef sauce, all topped with mashed potatoes and melted Irish cheddar. It’s the epitome of comfort food.

Fadó Irish Pub (4022 Townsfair Way)

Old-school Irish pub vibes, with decor that’s straight from Ireland. When I’m at Fadó and eat their Homestyle Corned Beef & Cabbage, it’s like a flash to the past, straight to my mom’s kitchen table. Served up with a creamy white wine mustard sauce, red potatoes, carrots, and buttered cabbage, it’s the kind of dish that feels like home.
