Anthony O'Connell

In Vietnam, before eating it’s common to say “Chúc ngon miệng!”– meaning ‘enjoy your meal’. If you’re about to eat Vietnamese food, you definitely will enjoy your meal!

From the robust and fragrant bowls of Phở soup to the crisp and savory delights of Bánh Mì sandwiches, Vietnamese food in Columbus offers a variety of regional tastes that promise a feast for the senses, here are my top five Vietnamese restaurant picks.

Lan Viet (59 Spruce St)

Located in the North Market downtown and North Market Bridge Park. I’m a super fan of the Hanoi Style Phở, which features stir-fried tri-tip steak marinated in ginger and onions, bathed in a 24-hour simmered broth. Don’t miss the Grilled Pork Bánh Mì, a masterpiece of juicy, seasoned pork, crisp veggies, and perfect bread.

6-1-Pho (4386 N High St)

A playful nod to Columbus itself, 6-1-Pho offers a unique, build-your-own bowl experience. Choose from a variety of proteins and broths to pair with Phở rice noodles and add your favorite toppings for a custom bowl that’s uniquely yours. Their Pork Bahn-mi, with layers of pork belly, pork shoulder, homemade pate, and pickled veggies, is a masterpiece of flavors and textures.

Start your meal with the vegan fried tofu dipped in a rich peanut sauce. Their Phở Chay will impress vegans and meat eaters alike with its flavorful veggie broth, rice noodles, and your choice of fresh tofu, sautéed seasoned tofu, steamed veggies, and sauteed veggies. Served with fresh bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lime, and peppers.

MI Li Cafe (5858 Emporium Square)

Start with their Summer Rolls, a dish that tastes as good as it looks. Follow this with the Beef Noodle Soup, a blend of rare steak and meatballs in a slowly simmered beef broth, complemented by a generous serving of herbs and spices. It’s a bowl that promises to delight and satisfy.

Pho Chef (3540 W Granville Rd)

Kick off your meal with their Grilled BBQ Meatballs, a perfect appetizer that sets the stage for the main event. The Spicy Round Steak Rice Noodles is a vibrant, fiery looking red soup that offers a kick of heat without overwhelming the senses, presenting a balanced and addicting spice.
