Amid bankruptcy filing, national chain since 1965 closes last remaining Central Ohio restaurant

Yes, another national restaurant chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. And another Central Ohio location has closed.

The last one in this region, actually. The TGI Fridays restaurant located at 2982 Taylor Road in Reynoldsburg quietly shuttered last month. The Texas-based restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy protection on Nov. 2 according to Texas court records, and before that, the chain closed dozens of their locations.

TGI Fridays first opened in Manhattan in 1965, standing for the phrase “Thank God It’s Friday” (then changed to “Goodness” instead of “God” in 2010). The original owner, Alan Stillman, opened the restaurant in hopes of meeting women out in a public place, actually. He used $5,000 of his own money, and $5,000 borrowed from his mother to purchase a bar and rename it TGI Fridays.

There are nine locations left in Ohio.
