Closed Max & Erma’s to be demolished; here’s what’s next for that location
It appears that another, former central Ohio Max & Erma’s is facing the same fate as the one in Hilliard.
The now-closed Max & Erma’s Restaurant in Dublin, located at 7480 Sawmill Rd., appears to be getting demolished to make way for none other than a new Sheetz convenience store & gas station, according to city permits that show building and graphics for Sheetz have been approved.

In 2020, many Max & Erma’s restaurants closed. And even before the pandemic, some Max & Erma’s, like the Polaris location, were converted to the Montana-based restaurant group’s other restaurant concept, called Mackenzie River Pizza & Grill. One Mackenzie River recently closed and is also going to be demolished for the new construction of a Chick-Fil-A.
Max & Erma’s was once considered a trendy, fast-growing restaurant concept, with original roots at their German Village location on South 3rd St. It quickly grew to 110 restaurants in the early 2000s, known for their ice cream sundae bars and casual, affordable, American-style fare.
There’s currently only one Max & Erma’s restaurant left in central Ohio, located in Lancaster.
