Columbus restaurant is boycotting the olympics after ‘insulting’ depiction of ‘The Last Supper’

Head to nearly any Short North eateries and you’re likely to find a broadcast of the Paris Olympics. Unless you’re going to TownHall or a few others.

Yesterday, the restaurant–along with several other Ethos Hospitality Group concepts—posted a statement to its Instagram account that it will boycott showing the Paris Olympics on TV after what many are alleging was a parody of the “The Last Supper” in the games’ opening ceremony.

Olympic Games organizers stated they were not attempting to recreate “The Last Supper,” but instead an ancient Greek bacchanal at the base of Mount Olympus.

“The portrayal of ‘The Last Supper’ was handled with an irresponsible level of irreverence, insulting the Christian faith,” the statement reads. “We unapologetically uphold a standard where all religions, races, sexual orientations, national origins, disabilities, ages and gender equalities are respected. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination or desecration. Therefore, we will not be broadcasting the Olympic Games at any of our restaurants.”

TownHall, Mandrake and Rebol are the Ethos Hospitality Group concepts in Columbus affected by the boycott.
