Cozy Mexican restaurant opens in former Italian Village Café

When a charming corner building with exposed brick walls and a large outdoor patio became available to rent in Italian Village, brothers Francisco and Juventino Pici knew it was the right fit for their new concept, El Carajillo Mexican Café & Bar.

The two of them moved their popular breakfast food truck, called Trading & Co., to the space that once housed Woodhouse Vegan Café at 851 N. 4th St., where they’re blending their love of coffee, food, and trading stocks.

El Carajillo officially opened their doors on Cinco de Mayo, and “It’s been really busy since then,” emphasized Francisco. They serve traditional Mexican fare from morning to evening, ranging in dishes like Chilaquiles and Breakfast Burritos  for breakfast (served 7am-2pm) and nachos, burritos, and quesadillas for lunch and dinner (served 2pm – 10pm).

As huge coffee aficionados, the Pici brothers also offer a full coffee bar, with cappuccinos, lattes, iced coffees, and more. The restaurant’s name is actually inspired by a coffee drink with liquor in it. They hold a happy hour from 2pm-6pm Monday through Friday, offering frozen margaritas, mimosas, tequila sunrises, mojitos, palomas, Bloody Mary’s, and many other libations.

El Carajillo is open 4pm-11pm currently every day, but starting Monday the 13th, they’ll be fully open for breakfast and brunch every day, starting at 7am until 11pm.
