Did this Columbus donut shop create a new food trend with their new Spicy Maple Pickle flavor?

Like penicillin and LSD, some of the world’s most impactful discoveries were made by accident. While it remains to be seen if Rose Dough Donut’s latest flavor is going to change the world in any discernible way, it too was created by chance.

The flavor in question: Spicy Maple Pickle.

According to owner Katie Passo, here’s how it came to be:

“Here’s what happened: one morning, I ate some dry maple cereal in a bowl– and later that day I put some spicy pickle potato chips in the same bowl. I could still taste some of the maple with the spicy pickle, and I really liked it! Think about bread and butter pickles, the sweet and savory, the sweet & spicy.”

The donut is a cruller topped with Rose Dough’s Ohio maple syrup glaze and dill pickle and red pepper seasoned sugar.

The new flavor will be available this week only. You can place your order here for pickup on Saturday.
