Happy Fried Day! 614 feast reels in his favorite fish & chip combos in the city

My perfect fish and chip meal has a thick cod fillet with a crispy, golden-brown crust. Step it up a notch with tartar sauce, a squeeze of lemon, and a splash of malt vinegar. Traditionally, you’d find thick-cut British-style fries with this dish, but, as long as they’re crispy, not too greasy, and anything but shoestring, I’m all in. Let’s reel in my favorite fish and chips in the 614.

Wendell’s Pub (925 N. State St.)

A Westerville staple that serves up British-style Atlantic cod that’s beer-battered to perfection. The steak fries are seasoned just right, and the coleslaw and house-made tartar sauce add the perfect flavor contrast. A very generous portion that’s crispy on the outside and deliciously flaky inside. Truly, it’s a real catch!

Lavash Cafe (2985 N. High St.)

Their fish and chips might be a surprise coming from a Mediterranean cafe, but they’re a must-try. The dish features three golden, crispy fried cod pieces served with fries and coleslaw, and it’s their za’atar aioli that really steals the show. This contemporary fusion dip is packed full of flavor, and I highly recommend getting an extra side of it.

A German Village staple since 1933, The Old Mohawk serves a massive one-pound breaded cod with wedge fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. The size is impressive, but it’s the taste that really makes it a winner. Big in size and flavor!

McClellan’s Pub (6694 Sawmill Rd)

Beer-battered Atlantic cod with house-made slaw, tartar sauce, and fries. It’s a moist and flaky fish, freshly prepared and coated in a thin, yet satisfyingly crunchy breading. A straightforward, classic choice that never disappoints.

Marino’s Seafood Fish & Chips (1216 W 5th Ave)

Located in the classic former Arthur Treacher building, this spot offers not just great fish and chips but a side of nostalgia too. The  old-school vibes here are as enjoyable as the food.
