High Street pizzeria and bar will close; Ohio pizza chain replacing it

A spin-off of the long-standing Columbus spot Slammers–Slammies on High–has closed, but it’s slated to be replaced by a regional pizza chain.

Opened in March of 2023 by Carson Nethers, Matthew Johns and Ryan Skehan, Slammies was billed as an LGBTQIA-friendly bar and eatery that stood as an “all-inclusive safe space for people who identify in different ways.” It was located at 1607 N. High St.

Slammies was associated with the iconic Columbus pizzeria and bar Slammers, sharing a focus on the creation of a safe, LGBTQIA-friendly space. Both also served thin and crispy, Columbus-style pizza.

Nethers is a managing partner of Slammers, and his Aunt, Maricia Riley (who is now retired), opened Slammers in 1993. Slammers, which is located 202 E. Long St., will remain open.

Slammies on High announced the closure on a social media.

“Sadly, Slammies on High won’t be reopening at this time. We decided to consolidate our operations and sell our campus location (Slammies),” a social media post from Slammies reads. “We hope to continue serving our fantastic customers at Slammers, we love you all and hope you have a fantastic school year.”

The post noted that Jac & Do’s Pizza, will open in place of Slammie’s. According to Sokol & Associates, the sale of Slammies was completed in early August.

Jac & Do’s is an Ohio-based pizza chain that operates a handful of locations in northern and northwestern Ohio.
