Hotly-anticipated bagel shop opens first brick and mortar space today

A hot new bagel concept unveiled its first-ever physical storefront today.

Bears Bagels, the anticipated bagel shop from hobbyists-turned-bagel-making-pros Charis and Lo Yost, opened today.

The storefront, which is the first brick and mortar home for the bagel shop, is located at  4142 Main St. in Hilliard, in the former home of DiCarlo’s Pizza.

And while Columbus appears infatuated with Bears Bagels today—it wasn’t unusual for the concept to create traffic-jam lines at local farmers markets, or for them to sell out entirely—believe it or not, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yosts had never even made a bagel.

The two tried making some as a hobby in their own kitchen, and while the first batch was about what you’d expect from a first-time bagel maker, they stuck with it, eventually settling on a recipe that Charis Yost describes as a cross between a New York-style and Montreal-style  bagel.
