“It really hits you in the gut:” Thieves cut locks, burglarize popular Columbus food truck

A local food truck is picking up the pieces after its generator and propane tanks were stolen in a burglary that took place over the weekend.

According to owner Alex Emrich, around 3 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 17, two individuals used power tools to cut the cage around the generator of the Street Thyme food truck, stole the generator and stole the truck’s propane tanks.

“You know, it really hits you in the gut,” Emrich said. “We also work with Make-A-Day on their food truck Monday and Tuesday, we serve nearly 200 free meals weekly right across the street from where Street Thyme is parked (at Cypress Kitchen), so that adds a little extra salt in the wound. It was a rough morning.”

According to Emrich, it will likely take several thousand dollars to replace what was stolen. The truck is scheduled to be at Antiques on High on Wednesday, and Emrich said Street Thyme is still hoping to serve food that evening.
