Local diner brings back game day buffet after pandemic hiatus

The best way to fuel up for game day? Eating a little bit of everything.

A local diner popular with the OSU student crowd and Buckeye fans alike is reopening their game day buffet after a hiatus brought to us by the pandemic. Sloopy’s Diner’s legendary game day buffet, located in the Ohio Union at 1739 N. High St., is back in business.

The buffet initially started in 2011, offered before OSU’s Saturday home games. But during the pandemic, it was forced to close in the 2020 and 2021 season. It then reopened in 2022, but attendance continued to drop, as people weren’t really interested in a buffet option even after the lingering effects of the pandemic.

Now, the game day buffet is in full swing again. It changes based on the game time – for example, for noon kickoffs, the buffet is offered from 8:30am-10am, and for night games, the buffet is available 11am-12:30pm. The buffet also features a rotating menu featuring hot breakfast options, but also unlimited wings, ribs, nachos, and more fuel for the long days in the stadium or at parties.

This buffet costs $24 per person and $10 for children 12 and under (for students on a dining plan, it’s 2 swipes). Reservations can be made, but walk-ins are welcome.
