40-year-old national retail chain files for bankruptcy, closing all locations including 4 in Central Ohio
The party’s dying down.
At least, it is at Party City.
The national retail chain known for affordable party supplies and seasonal decor recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after previously emerging from an earlier bankruptcy last year with $1 billion less in debt.

According to the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Party City will put its assets up for bidding. If there’s no sale, they’ll “initiate store closing sales to liquidate all of the Party City Group Companies’ retail and wholesale inventory and locations.”
All corporate-owned Party City locations will close. According to USA Today, all 24 Ohio locations will be closing, including the following Central Ohio locations:
- 3707 Easton Market, Columbus
- 1297 Polaris Pkwy., Columbus
- 6655 Sawmill Rd., Dublin
- 10701 Blacklick-Eastern Rd. NW, Pickerington
