National gelato chain opening second central Ohio location

I scream, you scream, we all scream for… gelato?

Gelato, the Italian word for ice cream (although traditionally their ingredients and preparations differ slightly), is a sweet treat that anyone should be able to enjoy – and I Scream Gelato is expanding their brand to make sure that more of us in central Ohio get the chance.

Originally opening their first Ohio location last summer in Polaris Fashion Place, franchisee Chris Meyers knew there was an opportunity for more.

Coming to 2010 N. High St., I Scream Gelato will open a second location with a specific focus towards college students and the surrounding Ohio State community.

“We saw it as a prime location. I really see the Woodruff/High Street area as a highway between on-campus and off-campus. We’re excited to welcome both,” said Meyers.

Meyers explained the interior is set to have several couches and lounge chairs that will encourage college students to stop by not only for a treat, but also for a place to study and get work done. The decor will also cater to different Columbus and Ohio themes, with a local artist set to create a mural for the shop.

Straying even further from their Polaris location in terms of design, Meyers said the campus location will lean towards a more traditional, European style. This includes a European-inspired garage door which will be accessible for guests to purchase food and drinks from, alongside a mirror into the kitchen, allowing for the Gelato process to be viewed by the public anytime.

“We’re hoping, and know, with these features there will be nothing like it in the area. “ Meyers stated.

In an additional attempt to cater to the nearby college community, the shop will have separate accommodations and menu items to assist those who may need it. Besides – obviously – the gelato, items such as milkshakes and coffee will also be available.

Opening is predicted to take place in Jan. or Feb. of next year, with construction set to wrap up in January.
