New chicken wing restaurant just opened; owner says they’re the best wings in Columbus by far

I asked Sheed Turner what makes his wings so special. The sauce? The fry? The marinade? “All of that, yeah, but really, they’re made with a lot of love,” he responded.

Turner’s newest concept, Roscoe’s Late Night Wings, combines love with late-night cravings. He already owns the soul food restaurant Str8 Out the Kitchen with his pal, Cheff God, and together, they decided that Columbus was missing a late night spot for wings, hotdogs, sandwiches and fries.

And by “late night,” we truly mean it – Roscoe’s, located at 4825 E Main. St., doesn’t even open until 10pm, and they stay open until 2am, every Thursday through Saturday. “I noticed everywhere on E. Main St. seems closed starting at 10, so I thought, ‘What are people wanting during these 4 hours of the night?’ And of course, they want some grease on their stomachs from drinking and all that,” Turner joked.

Roscoe’s officially opened two weeks ago, and people are especially loving the honey garlic wings, plus the deep fried sausage dog that’s topped with fries, coleslaw, and a homemade barbeque sauce and chopped red onions. Other options include burgers, buffalo chicken sandwiches, fried okra, onion rings, and steak fries.

Turner and his team makes all of their sauces from scratch, and he said the wings are fresh, never frozen. Plus, they’re marinated over night and fried in a homemade batter. Homemade sauces include teriyaki, sweet heat, Grippo, Cajun, BBQ lemon pepper, and much more.

“I believe I could beat any competition with my wings,” said Turner. “Even my plain wings with no sauce are amazing.”

Rasheed “Sheed” Turner knows a thing or two about cooking – he’s been in the culinary world for the past 25 years, and even before that, he grew up with a mom who was a chef. She taught him how to cook with love and soul. “I’m a Southern boy from Georgia,” explained Turner. “When I cook, oh I cook.”

He visited Columbus last November, and all he wanted was some good soul food. “I noticed there weren’t really a lot around though,” he said. “My wife is from Detroit, and we decided Columbus was a good spot to move back up North from Georgia. I told her Columbus was the place to open my own spot. If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.”

And with wings that he claims “are the guaranteed best wings in Columbus, by far,” we’re sure he’ll do just fine here.
