Oldest Chinese restaurant in Cbus goes viral, has to adjust hours because of the attention

A 1950s Cantonese restaurant on Columbus’ West Side has been garnering praise for the past seven decades, but it’s officially gone “viral,” thanks to a national food blogger’s Tik Tok.

Robert Martinez (@eatingwithrobert) has been traveling all across America and showcasing unique restaurants around the country. Last week/this week, according to his Tik Tok account, he’s in none other than Columbus, Ohio.

And he couldn’t leave one of the oldest Chinese restaurants off his must-try list. Last week, he visited Ding Ho, the beloved restaurant located at 120 Phillipi Rd since 1956. Specifically, he featured their specialty dish called Wor Sue Gai.

The Tik Tok video shows exactly how their Wor Sue Gai is made – whole chickens are simmered in their special broth, then deboned, breaded, and fried, topped with chopped nuts, fresh scallion, and a homemade gravy. A Ding Ho co-owner explains that they, and another East Side restaurant called Wings, both take credit for inventing this dish.

The video also shows how their famous egg rolls are made in custom presses. And of course, the co-owners’ 90 year old father who works at the restaurant seven days a week stole the internet’s hearts.

About 683,000 views later, and Ding Ho has had to adjust their hours because they’re so busy. Usually they close at 9 p.m., but they’re adjusting their hours for the time being and closing at 7 p.m. instead. They’re also encouraging patrons to dine-in; carryout orders won’t be available right now either until the attention dies down a little bit.

Take a look at the video here!
