Popular global chain files to take over now-closed Short North restaurant + bar

Sav McKee

Last July, a Short North restaurant and bar closed following a lawsuit filed by the landlord.

The establishment, called Julep, was mostly known for cocktails and elevated barfare. But according to city permits, guests probably won’t be ordering a gin & tonic or gourmet hotdog from the spot that’s taking over.

Recently filed permits with the City of Columbus show that none other than the global coffee brand, Starbucks, is planning to take over Julep’s former spot, located at 1014 N. High St.

Renovations are projected to cost around $800,000 according to the permit, with new light fixtures, new walls, furniture, and necessary barista equipment.

Starbucks could not be reached for comment to discuss opening date plans, but stay tuned.
