Popular local restaurant chain replacing the now-closed Short North Local Cantina
Last June, the Short North Local Cantina abruptly closed their doors, posting a sign on their building that they’d no longer be in service at their 600 N. High St. location.
About two months later, and another Mexican restaurant has already moved in.

According to a sign posted on the front of the former Local Cantina, the popular Mexican restaurant chain, El Vaquero, is making their way to the Short North. The sign says “Coming Soon,” and a manager told 614Now that they should be ready to open within the next three-four weeks.
Although this definitely isn’t the first Mexican restaurant to join the Short North (Condado, Bakersfield, El Segundo, Local Cantina, etc.), this marks the first Short North location for El Vaquero.
Owners Efrain Quezada and Fernando Morales first opened El Vaquero about 30 years ago on Riverside Dr. in Upper Arlington. Since then, the restaurant has expanded to over 20 different locations, quickly becoming one of Columbus’ favorite places for margaritas and chimichangas.
