“There are a few things that I feel like I need to clear up,” Craig Kempton posted on Facebook.

Kemptom is, or should we say was, the owner of the famous Bier Stube, a 60 year old Columbus staple that toasted their final goodbye last week.

The closure came in the face of plans for a new apartment building which received approval from the University Area Commission earlier this year. Alongside the Bier Stube, 14-0 Express and Yau’s Chinese Bistro will be demolished to make room for the new development.

But not everyone believed that’s why Bier Stube closed, so Kempton took to social media to clear up some of the rumors. Here’s what he had to say:

“1. I had NO part of the sale of the Bier Stube land. I did not receive any kind of payout or settlement. It is as simple as the land was sold. I rent the building. It’s been hard on my family when people think that we’re making out with a big payment. $0.00
2. Last year, there was a proposal to put me in the building that was going to be built. Those plans fell through with the company trying to build. The new builders did not want to include me in their plans for the future. So I will not be relocating in the new building.
3. Nothing is for sale! All things on the wall, jukebox, etc. is going with me.”

Kempton ended the announcement with on a positive note, teasing us that The Bier Stube may not be gone forever. He said:

“Which leads us to…

4. If I have the right situation, I would love to make another Bier Stube. If I do this, I need all the stuff inside to make it feel right.  I know I have the support and would love to give everyone a place to call home again.

Thanks for everything,
Craig Kempton

Bier Stube

And just maybe…..more to come.”

Fingers crossed!
