Rumors have it that this Columbus Kroger is closing soon – but here’s what we know
A viral Reddit post this week, a viral Facebook post last week…rumors are circulating around town that Krogers Great Southern, located at 3637 S. High St., is closing on August 1, and the Columbus community was severely upset about the potential, with some comments saying that the South Side will now be a “food desert.”
We reached out to Kroger to see what was going on.
“We’re trying to figure out where this rumor even started,” said Mark Bruce, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Kroger. “That Kroger is not closing on August 1.”

A Reddit post said that Kroger submitted a written notice to the South Side Council, confirming their closure. However, Bruce said that isn’t true.
Bruce told 614Now, “Kroger’s store at 3637 South High Street in Columbus is not closing. Kroger is committed to providing fresh affordable food to our customers and serving our neighbors.”
The Southside Civic Association posted on their social media that they “accept Kroger’s statement as factual.”
Another lesson on not always believing what you see on the internet!
