These are the city’s best mac & cheese dishes, according to 614 feast
Mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food. It can be a cheesy side dish or an entree loaded with protein like smoked meat or lobster. Columbus also offers great vegan versions. I honestly love all styles of mac and cheese: baked, creamy gooey, with bread crumbs, without bread crumbs—basically, any combo of cheese and carb is a feast for me.
Let’s get into five of my favorite mac and cheese dishes around the city.
Hoggy’s BBQ and Catering (830 Bethel Rd.)
Their famous mac and cheese as the base of their Mac Bowl, loaded with your choice of smoked meat (brisket is my go to), toppings and sauces. The mac and cheese is their grandmother’s recipe, a unique blend that includes cottage cheese and sour cream, delivering an unforgettable taste and texture.
Ray Ray’s Hog Pit Clintonville (2619 N. High St.)
The 2023 Columbest winner for the best BBQ in Columbus, as voted by the readers of 614 Magazine. With several locations across the city, they’re a local favorite for a reason. Their mac and cheese is super cheesy with a house-made cheese sauce with Ray Ray’s unique seasoning blend.

Woodhouse Vegan (19 W. Russell St.)
Their vegan mac is top-notch and easily earns its spot among the best mac and cheeses in Columbus. Frisco mac + cheese with oat milk cheddar, patty melt crumbles, caramelized onions, all mixed up with steak ‘n shake frisco sauce and topped with fry-seasoned panko.
Chile Verde (1522 Gemini Pl.)
GC Mac N Cheese Cavatappi pasta and homemade green chile cheese sauce, choose from sautéed vegetables or proteins like marinated chicken, shrimp, or the must-try green chile pork, all topped with fresh pico de gallo. It’s a zesty twist on traditional mac and cheese.
Pat and Gracie’s (138 Graceland Blvd.)
The lobster mac & cheese is a current special. A luxurious blend of lobster claw and knuckle meat, asparagus, and Cavatappi pasta, all tossed in a rich, creamy lobster cheese sauce and garlic toasted breadcrumbs. And don’t worry—if you miss out on this special, their original mac & cheese is also a major feast.
Share this list with your cheesiest friend! And hey, don’t forget – there’s still time to cast your vote for 2024’s Columbest. You’ve got until March 25th.
