Think your chili is the best in central Ohio? Join this chili cook-off with ‘celebrity judges’!

Sav McKee

Everyone knows someone that thinks their chili is the best to exist (or maybe that’s you!). You can put that to the test this month at the “Souper Heroes’ Chili Cook-off,” hosted by the Worthington Farmers Market.

On April 20 from 11am-1pm, at the Worthington Farmers Market (7227 N. High St.) home cooks can showcase their best chili recipes for the city, all the while supporting the Worthington Resource Pantry. Maybe you just want to try the different chilis, and not actually participate in the contest? You can sample a variety of the chilis prepared by the talented home cooks in exchange for a donation to the pantry.

But the attendees won’t be the ones judging the winners. A panel of “celebrity judges” will determine the winning pot of soup, based on taste, creativity, and presentation. These judges include:

● Monika Arora: Owner of Maani’s Indian Spice Blends, cookbook author, frequent TV guest chef, passionate about creating healthy, delicious meals.

● Nick Dekker (“Dr. Breakfast”): Food and travel writer known throughout the midwest, featured on PBS and Food Network; writes for Columbus Monthly, Ohio Magazine, The Kitchn, TourismOhio, Cubby at Home, Experience Columbus, Worthington Spotlight and Great Lakes Publishing.

● Laura Lee: Chef and Owner of Ajumama food truck, blending Korean American and French culinary influences

● Jack Moore: Chef with a Midwestern take on food, appeared on Food Network’s shows; founder of Black Cap Hot Sauce

This is an “all chilis welcome” event, where beans or beanless, veggie or meat, plus everything else are all accepted. You can enter the cook off here!
