After shooting at Italian Village pizzeria, City Attorney intends to ‘go after’ eatery

City Attorney Zach Klein’s office and the Property Action Team announced a temporary restraining order filed against MIA Hookah in Italian Village last week, and now Klein’s office intends to take action against the pizzeria across the street.

According to a press release from Klein’s office, the City Attorney plans to “go after” Del Baggio Pizzeria soon.

The pizza shop is located at 127 E. 5th Ave., across the street from MIA Hookah, which is located at 132 E. 5th Ave.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 27, Del Baggio was the site of a shooting that saw multiple people injured. Additionally, according to a press release from Klein’s office, the pizzeria has seen an “uptick in criminal activity” in the past several months.

“The corner of Fifth and Summit has been on our radar for some time, and thanks to CPD and concerned neighbors, we were able to build a strong case to hold these owners accountable for the crime and chaos that has happened under their watch,” said Assistant City Attorney Christopher Clark in a press release.

Klein’s office intends to declare Del Baggio a public nuisance at the preliminary injunction hearing against MIA Hookah, which will happen in the coming weeks, although an exact date was not announced.

Declaring the eatery a public nuisance is different than filing an injunction against it. In the latter case, the injunction can legally require business to refrain from doing certain things.
