Ohio 8 year-old steals her mom’s car, drives 11 miles to Target

What’s wrong with a little retail therapy? Typically nothing, but if you’re an 8-old girl who just stole your mom’s car to drive more than 10 miles to shop at Target, there may be a few issues with that.

According to the Bedford, Ohio Police, that’s exactly what happened on Sept. 15.

According to reports, the car—a 2020 Nissan Rogue—was reported missing the morning of Sept. 15, prompting the girl’s mother to call the Bedford, Ohio police.

After opening an investigation, police received Ring camera footage from a neighbor that showed the girl getting into the car around 7 a.m. She was located at a Target store in Bainbridge, Ohio, unharmed after a Bainbridge officer discovered the missing car in the store’s parking lot.

According to the police report, the Bainbridge Target is 11 miles away from the family’s home. The girl is too young to be charged criminally.

Bedford Police seemed to take the incident in stride, posting a humorous update to its Facebook page yesterday.

“That’s right an 8 year old took mommy’s car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop. Thankfully she made it and was immediately located by Bainbridge Police. She’s now home safe,” the post reads. “Not sure what she bought, or if she was even able to use her Target app to save 5%. We did let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not mean.”
