Ohio murder suspect featured on ‘America’s Most Wanted’ captured while working as a cop

A man suspected in a 2004 Butler County murder has been apprehended two decades later, and while he was serving as police officer in Mexico.

According to a press release from the U.S. Marshalls Service, 72 year-old Antonio Riano was arrested on August 1 in his hometown of Zapotitlan Palmas, State of Oaxaca, Mexico. He was then transported to Butler County Jail.

According to the U.S. Marshalls Service, he was working as a local police officer when he was arrested.

Riano was featured in a 2005 episode of “America’s Most Wanted” related to the December 2004 shooting death of 25 year-old Benjamin Becarra.

“The United States Marshal Service, through our violent fugitive task forces, assists our state and local law enforcement partners to apprehend the area’s most dangerous fugitives,” Michael D. Black, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, said in a press release. “This arrest is the result of the ongoing sharing of information between the agencies and the determination of the investigators who refused to give up on this case.”

According to Butler County Jail records, he has been charged with murder and felonious assault.
