Police: Man in leopard print onesie arrested after breaking into pet store, stealing gerbils in his pants

A Columbus man was arrested after breaking into a local pet store, setting animals free, and stealing others–in his pants.

According to Columbus Police, Matthew Pancake burglarized three different Columbus business in the early morning hours today, including the Hilliard Station locations of Famous Footwear, Roosters Wings and Petland.

While police confirmed Pancake stole items from all three stores, his alleged actions at Petland are the most noteworthy.

Police told 614Now that the alleged burglar let multiple animals free from their cages. Additionally, when he was taken into custody, Pancake allegedly had “multiple gerbils in his pants” that were taken from Petland.

According to Police, Pancake was wearing a leopard-print onesie.

It’s unclear what was taken from Famous Footwear and Roosters. It’s also not clear what prompted Pancake’s action at the Hilliard Station pet store.
