Ice cream trails, 90s-inspired garden tours and craft beer festivals: Your guide to summer fun in Westerville
Summer in central Ohio has officially arrived, which means there’s a whole lot to do in the city of Westerville. From ice cream to craft beer and a whole lot more, here are some of the city’s standout events to check out this summer.
For the first year ever, Visit Westerville is rolling out a passport-style ice cream trail of its own. You can learn about the details (and the prizes involved) here. The trail includes eight great ice cream spots.
While this central Ohio city was once known as the “dry capital of the world,” there’s now a bustling DORA that encompasses the heart of Uptown Westerville along State Street. This means you can sip and stroll through boutique shops, great eateries and more. Westerville’s DORA can be enjoyed 7 days a week. Operating hours are Monday-Friday 4-10 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
WesterFlora began in 1992 and was inspired by the 1992 AmeriFlora, the international show that was held at Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus. This year will be the tour’s 32nd year. Each year, 10-12 local gardens are selected for the tour. WesterFlora is open to the public and free of charge. Hundreds of people from across Ohio tour these beautiful gardens of the Westerville area. Westerville Garden Club (a member of the Garden Club of Ohio) coordinates the tour. WesterFlora is sponsored by the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department and Hoover Gardens in Westerville. This year’s tour takes place on Sunday, July 21 from 12-6 p.m.. Tour maps are available online at www.westerflora.net and can also be picked up at Hoover Gardens, the Westerville Public Library and the Westerville Community Center.
Tapestry of a Town Walking Tour
This year’s Tapestry of a Town takes place Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 1-5 p.m. Visit 10 historic sites of Westerville and learn about the heritage of the community, all while contributing to a wonderful cause. The funds raised from ticket sales go toward building homes in partnership with deserving families who just need a hand up, not a hand-out. The ten 2024 Tapestry of a Town sites include: Grace Lutheran Church, Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.), Good Vibes Winery, Blend Candle Company, High Bank Distillery, Longfellow Elementary School, Howard House, Otterbein’s Cowan Hall, a private residence, and the Westerville Library for local history. Tickets for this year’s tour can be purchased here.
Uptown Untapped Craft Beer Festival
Visit Westerville on August 10 to attend the craft brew festival in the former “Dry Capital of the World.” Westerville’s annual Uptown Untapped promises a night of fun featuring a dozen or more craft breweries, food from various Uptown eateries, live music, entertainment, games, and more! The festival officially runs from 6-10 p.m. However, there is an early admission tasting hour ticket available which includes early entry to the event at 5 p.m. and a signature Uptown Untapped 4 oz. tasting glass and beer tastings until 6 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit here.
